These updated EASL Clinical Practice Guidelines are expected to significantly improve day-to-day clinical management of AIH by offering practical, clearly graded recommendations across the entire disease spectrum—from diagnosis to long-term follow-up. They clarify how to interpret laboratory findings, when to perform liver biopsy, and how to initiate and adjust treatment based on disease severity and response. The guidelines also address real-world clinical challenges such as managing patients who do not achieve complete biochemical response, when and how to withdraw therapy, and how to approach difficult-to-treat cases. By providing updated, structured algorithms and response criteria, the guidelines support more confident, timely, and individualized clinical decisions in everyday practice.
