Jörn Schattenberg

Germany

Jörn M. Schattenberg, MD, is a Professor of Medicine and Director of the Metabolic Liver Research Program at the University Medical Center Mainz, Germany. He received his medical degree in 2002 after studying at the University of Mainz (Germany) and at the Tulane University in New Orleans (US). He completed his postdoctoral training at the Albert-Einstein College of Medicine, New York.

He launched the Metabolic Liver Research Program at the University Medical Center in Mainz and his main research interest focus on translational sciences of liver injury, the development of therapeutic interventions and novel biomarkers in acute and chronic liver disease. He is board-certified in Internal Medicine and Gastroenterology & Hepatology and Infectious Disease.

Prof. Schattenberg acts as lead principal investigator in phase II and III clinical trials, is a member of the scientific committee of the United European Gastroenterologist (UEG) and a member of the Editorial Board of Hepatology and the Alimentary Pharmacology & Therapeutics.
